Who is DJ Marika Rossa?
The world will continue to remember her as Dj Marika Rossa, but it was as Mariya Zheltova that the Dj and producer was born on November 25, 1986, in the Ukrainian metal city, of Kryvyi Rih. According to her, it was a city filled with junkies and prostitutes, and ruled by street gangs and bandits, killing people just because they could.
The Dj who would later become popular for lifting the colors of her country high was raised alongside a brother. Even though her parents and her brother are not known to the public, she said that her family struggled to survive when the Ukrainian economy collapsed with that of the Soviet Union. They grew vegetables and flowers to have food and sold some in the street markets. So she and her brother spent most of their childhood either growing plants or selling them.
She also recalled that at that period after sales were made from their proceeds, her parents would sacrifice all the money to ensure that she and her brother had a better life. Their parents would pay for them to have English, dancing, drawing, and taekwondo classes. At some point, she also applied to a music school but was refused because it was said by the teacher that she had no ear for music.
While she was denied a chance at the music school, Marika Rossa would later move to Kyiv to further her education. She bagged a degree from a university in Kyiv majoring in Economics. And after her graduation, she began to pursue her dream of becoming a Dj and a producer.

It was at the age of 15 she started honing this career. It was also at this age she first visited a club and all thanks to her parents who were heavily involved in helping her to realize this goal and never banned her from expressing herself. This would later become a stepping stone for the young talent as her visions and dreams are coming to play.
From 2005 to 2010 after she graduated from school, Rossa DJed in Ukraine and Russia. In March 2010 she joined the “Italo Business” label with the “Loppestein” track, produced together with Dandi & Ugo. It was included in their new album “Fritto Misto”, released at the end of March on the “Italo Business” label and followed by such releases as “Sexy Shop”, “E Buradel” and a remix to the “Masai” track by Vuk Smiljanic.
In 2011 she had her first appearance in Georgia, playing at the Kazantip electronic dance music festival, and was ranked number one in the female techno DJ rankings in Ukraine. This became a boost for her as she began to gain popularity and from 2012 to 2014 she witnessed bookings in other parts of Europe including Switzerland, Bulgaria, Austria, France, and Spain.
In 2015 she founded her own label Fresh Cut. Under this label, she released the track In Hypnose (Acid Mix) together with Deborah De Luca another famous Italian female DJ. Her track alongside the Italian DJ peaked at the no.1 spot on the Beatport, Techno Charts. Their singles and remixes have been released on the Italo Business, Crunch Control, Audio Elite, Naughty Pills, DSR Digital, Dolma Records, Pragmatik Recordings, Naked Lunch, and Elektrax Recordings labels.
Since 2017 she has been playing at major electronic dance festivals such as Parookavilen, Airbeat.1, and Open Beatz held in Germany. In addition, she has appeared in renowned clubs such as the Cologne Bootshaus in Germany and the PriviledgeIbiza located in Spain. Currently, the DJ is ranked at no. 7 in the rankings of Ukrainian DJs, still number one as the female techno DJ, and no. 1564 at the global official DJ-rankings.com.
